Located near Seoul’s highest mountain, the Gileum area is an old town set on a sloping landscape. This unique topography has inspired our design philosophy, leading to apartment blocks built at varying levels to harmonize with the natural contours of the land.
Drawing inspiration from the traditional eaves of old town buildings near the site, our design approach bridges historical aesthetics with modern functionality. The transition in design emulates the simplification process observed in folding a paper crane—distinct in detail yet uniform in language across various elements such as the gates, entrances, and the tea house. This consistent design language ensures a cohesive visual and experiential feel throughout the complex.
